reduce your home library to a card

i’ve always felt a sense of comfort, warmth and identity by surrounding myself with great books.
overtime, i began to notice i had a collection that i loved and yet rarely revisited or simply never got to. even worse, they felt like a burden having to pack them up and move them from home to home.
recently, i’ve made a practice of regularly selling, donating or gifting all but about 25 books (i’d like to reduce that further). my ongoing struggle lies in that i’m a sucker for vintage titles — their smell and the tactile experience (no kindle for me anytime soon).
to this end, i’ve rediscovered my local library and love it! some immediate benefits:
- regain tons of space in your home and office
- library membership is free (i’m still hoping they’ll adopt a Netflix never late policy)
- selection in urban libraries is enormous
- the collection is ever-growing (you can donate to it)
- you can meet your neighbors (quietly)
- support and inform community space
