i try to make a trip to my local thrift store (out of the closet) every 2 weeks.  even if it’s just one grocery bag, it helps reduce clutter and i’m better able to edit my belongings down to the essentials.

i’ve donated all kinds of stuff and enjoy a great tax deduction each year.  if the thought of tackling this project stresses you out: start small, donate often and think of donating  something as something new comes through your front door.

good places to begin:

  • clothes, jackets and shoes you haven’t worn for 3+ years
  • books you’ve read and won’t read again (donate to your local library)
  • cds (rip them and access your digital files through itunes)
  • old towels and linens that have seen better days (how many do you really need?)
